The Annual Tournament
We are very pleased that the Annual Tournament will be held at Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club in Deal, Kent. We are fortunate to have such a good relationship with Deal and as always they are being very hospitable. We encourage members to spread the word to non-members who they think would be interested in attending.
Please note we are trialling a variation on the format this year which we hope will bring additional variety to the golf on offer.
Dates: The week will run from Tuesday 26th May to Saturday 30th May 2020.
First round: All first round matches will be played on Wednesday (either am or pm). Please express a preference but note it may not be possible to accommodate this in order to ensure a balanced field.
Please note (a) Golf is available on Tuesday afternoon and we can help with pairings;
(b) On Friday there will be a singles competition for those who wish to enter it.
Official dinners and drinks: Captain’s Cocktail Party on Wednesday at the clubhouse; Dinner on Thursday will be at the Bell in Sandwich.
Finals: The format means the semi-finals and finals will be on Saturday.
Informal Supper: We will organise an informal supper for Tuesday evening, at Victuals.
Note for newer members/Concessions
The Society offers significant concessions for those attending the Tournament for the first time, and for those called in 2011 or later.
First-timer: 1 day’s golf paid for by the Society; Dinner likewise;
2010 or later: Subsidised day rate of £25. (This can be combined with First-timer subsidy).
Format/Flexibility in the week
The Tournament remains the main golfing event of the week, and the Thursday dinner is the social highlight.
However, there is considerable flexibility for those who cannot commit to be there from Wednesday to Saturday, or for those knocked out early on. There is a foursomes competition for those knocked out in the first round – The Tuesday Tankards. Entry into this is strongly encouraged and matches may be played on Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning. All events are being played at Royal Cinque Ports this year and tees have been reserved. Please ensure that all non-tournament matches do not interfere with the designated tee times for the matches.
The Captain’s Prize is a standalone foursomes competition that takes place from 1.30pm on Thursday, followed by the dinner.
Other Foursomes: The BBA Cup runs throughout the week, and any pair can submit a card (by 6pm on Friday).
On Friday, players may submit foursomes stableford cards in either the BBA Cup, or (before lunch) in the mixed foursome Pauline Hollis Plate.
This year, on Friday afternoon we will also have a singles stableford competition (Matthew Neill Trophy). Pairings and tee ties will be available at the dinner. You do not need to indicate now that you are entering this.
There is therefore the scope to attend from Tuesday to Saturday, or almost any combination of days in between. If you have any questions please let us know,
Green Fees: We have arranged a day rate of £110, which is a significant reduction from the full visitor rate. On the entry form please pay for all days which you intend to play, and please let me know during the week if this changes.
Please note that daily rates do not include the cost of lunch.
Dinner: The Annual Dinner will be held in the Bell Hotel. The cost will be £80 per head, including wines (but free for first-timers).
Local Accommodation: Please see the link below provided by the Club as to recommended accommodation: https://www.royalcinqueports.com/accommodation
Entry Forms: Entry forms are included below. Please note the entry fee (£25) is payable if you are participating in any golfing event, not just the Tournament.
Please indicate if you are likely to attend the informal dinner on Tuesday.
Please return your Tournament Entry Form and cheque by FRIDAY 10th APRIL at the latest.
Cheques made payable to ‘Bar Golfing Society’. If you would prefer to pay electronically please make a transfer to the below details but please let me know that you have done so:
